How to Change SKUs or GUIDs of Existing Products

This guide explains how to change the SKUs or GUIDs of existing items using the bulk uploader. Before you begin, familiarize yourself with these key terms:

  • GUID – Global Unique Identifier; always 100% unique across all items.
  • SKU – Stock Keeping Unit; referred to as the "parent SKU" when part of a variation set.
  • ID – SureDone's internal sequential database ID; 100% unique and system-assigned.

Because the SKU and GUID are the fields being changed, we use the ID as the identifier in the spreadsheet — it's the only way to target specific items in the bulk uploader without referencing the fields you're trying to update.

* IMPORTANT NOTE *

Follow this guide step by step. You must select Skip All Channels when uploading. Failing to do so risks removing your live listings. Contact support if you have any questions before proceeding.

In the example below, you'll see that we change over SKUs and GUIDs that start with a prefix of SD- to a new prefix of NEW-. Please pay close attention to the examples provided in the screenshots of the spreadsheet to ensure that you're following the steps correctly.

Steps to Change SKUs and/or GUIDs

1. Export your products

Generate an export of the items whose SKUs and/or GUIDs you want to change. Make sure to include the following fields: id, sku, and guid.

2. Download the file that's generated below

3. Open the file in Microsoft Excel. Insert a new column before all others and set its value to action=edit for every row.

4. Edit the SKU and/or GUID columns with the new values you want to assign.

‼️ Important: If the item is not a variation child (i.e., it is a standalone product or a variation parent), you must include and update the SKU value even if you are only changing the GUID. Both fields need to be present and consistent for non-variation-child items.

If the item is a variation child, the SKU is inherited from the parent and does not need to be changed here.

5. Save the file as a .csv and go to Products > Bulk Uploads

6. Select your file and make sure to enable both:

  • Force
  • Skip All Channels

⚠️ Not selecting Skip All Channels can put your live listings at risk of being removed.
